Abominable Advent Calendar Day 13: The Haunting Passion (1983)

Crapsterpiece Category: Made for TV Trash

Heads up: ghost sex

You know those gothic romance novel covers with the terrified woman in the diaphanous white nightgown running away from a foreboding castle or mansion? The Haunting Passion is one of those in made-for-TV movie form, starring the queen of such things, the lovely Jane Seymour. Jane and her retired football player husband (Gerald MacRainey) move into a huge house on the California coast, where the waves crash on the rocks—as they do in a proper gothic—and Jane is left alone a lot to paint badly.

Jane begins to have supernatural experiences, and eventually discovers that there’s a ghost in the house. The ghost has the hots for Jane and quickly sidelines Gerald (who pretty much ignores her anyway), and soon they’re having steamy shower supernatural ghost sex. Well, as steamy as it’s going to be on 1980s TV. Anyhoo, Jane begins to suspect that perhaps her ghostly lover wants more from her than just a little boot-knocking. Can Gerald save her? Does he care? He should. She’s Jane Freaking Seymour!
